Seniors Want Prescription Drug Coverage In Medicare
A growing number of older Americans want Medicare to cover all or part of the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs.
A recent survey conducted by a leading senior advocacy group shows that seven out of 10 Medicare recipients favor adding a prescription drug benefit to Medicare. Some of the respondents indicated that they would be willing to pay up to $20 per month to get added coverage.
Drug costs continue to skyrocket and spending on prescription drugs rose 16 percent in 1998 and have continued to increase in 1999.
It's estimated that anywhere from 35 percent to 50 percent of all Medicare recipients have no prescription drug coverage.
Michael J. Zabko, Executive Director of TREA Senior Citizens League (TSCL) recently encouraged seniors to contact their Members of Congress to support legislation that would add a prescription drug benefit to Medicare.
Said Zabko, "Our nation's seniors are willing to foot their fair share of the bill in order to get the prescription drug coverage they need."
For more information about proposed changes in Medicare legislation send a self-addressed business sized envelope and $1.00 to cover shipping and handling to TREA Senior Citizens League, Department N911, 909 N. Washington St., Suite 300, Alexandria, VA 22314.
